Andrea McCuaig

Andrea McCuaig is a graduate in Fine Art Painting and Graphic Design and a current candidate for Doctor of Philosophy at ANU School of Art. Currently working from her studio at M16 Art Space in Griffith ACT. Andrea has exhibited in Australia for the past 16 years and holds collections in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne. The evolution of Andrea’s painting practice, during her candidature at ANU, has expanded to include dance and choreographic collaboration, video and experimental drawing. The enduring theme that drives this expanded enquiry is in identifying kinaesthetic relationships between embodied motion and dance and how these relationships can be re-enacted to generate gestural abstraction in painting.

Artist Statement

In my art practice I am constantly researching potential relationships between dance movement and gestural painting. I am searching for relationships, commonalities and differences between movement in 3 dimensional space and the potential trace effects of these movements in 2 dimensional works of art.

Inner North Story

The bustling movement and vitality of the inner north inspires my ongoing research into potential relationships between dance movement and gestural painting.
